Just Breathe

Have you ever needed to just breathe?

In this crazy, fun-filled adventure called life there are times when you want to smile and give the world a big bear hug; but, there are also times when you want to cry and tell the world to keep away. I believe these highs and lows make life interesting and motivate us to choose if we maintain our path or create change.

Both maintaining our current path, and choosing to walk a new one, comes with challenges and stresses. Stress is an inevitable part of life, one that experts say can have both positive and negative effects on our bodies and minds.

How do the most successful people deal with stress? They just breathe! Yes, that’s their secret and it’s been revealed.

It makes sense to just breathe when you’re feeling stressed. It trains your brain to focus solely on the task at hand, helping to take the emotion creating your stress out of the journey. Deliberate breathing also helps to calm your nervous system and balance your hormones.

It’s easy to just breathe. The next time you feel stress, honour yourself by taking a couple of minutes to focus solely on your in-breath and your out-breath. Your goal is to only think about breathing, so closing the door and switching your phone to silent is ideal. Try to just breathe for about 2 minutes. At first, you might find this a real challenge, but it will become easier and I guarantee you will thank yourself afterwards. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not take up yoga and learn their time-honoured breathing techniques?
